Bioengineering
undergraduate program
Today’s bioengineers develop instrumentation, materials, diagnostic and therapeutic devices, artificial organs and other equipment needed in medicine and biology and to discover new fundamental principles regarding the functioning and structure of living systems.
The overall goal of the Harrington Bioengineering Undergraduate Degree Program is to produce high-quality graduates with a broad-based education in engineering and the life and natural sciences who are well prepared for further graduate study in bioengineering, a career in the medical device or biotechnology industries, a career in biomedical research or entry into a medical or other health profession school.
Opportunities for bioengineering students and faculty are at an all-time high. Bioengineering students are prepared for careers in the biomedical device and biotechnology industries, for entrance into medical and other professional training, and for careers in academic bioengineering. Major technical advances in biology and bio-related fields enable careers in bioengineering that are exciting, challenging, cutting-edge and highly transdisciplinary.
To further support student success, the Bioengineering Industrial Internship Program at ASU helps to prepare students for biomedical engineering careers in the medical device and biotechnology industries, and to familiarize companies with the talents and abilities of these students. Student interns participate in hands-on industrial projects that expose them to research and development, manufacturing and marketing practices.
Bioengineering, B.S.E: bioengineering is the discipline of engineering that bridges the engineering, physical, life and medical sciences and helps to overcome limitations inherent in traditional engineering, and to identify, understand and solve problems in medicine, physiology and biology.
