Dr. He's primary research and teaching interests include the application of advanced control theory to the analysis and control of neuromuscular systems for posture and movement, implantable neural interface technology, cortical and spinal cord recording and stimulation for sensorimotor adaptation and control with application to advanced and smart prosthetics, application of robotics and virtual reality research to neural rehabilitation and prosthetic devices. He has obtained funding for and directed many major interdisciplinary research projects, sponsored by NIH, NSF, DARPA and other funding sources for over $20 millions. Dr. He and his team was nominated and selected as a finalist in 2005 Az Governor's Innovator of the year competition. He is also actively involved in the curriculum development of Bio-control and Neural Engineering, and reform in interdisciplinary graduate education and research training.
