K-12 Outreach

There is nothing more important than capturing and exciting the minds of today’s youth. The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering engage Arizona’s K-12 students through creative, hands-on activities that inspire them to become technically savvy, prepare for studies in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)-related fields and pursue careers in engineering.

Through a variety of on-campus activities, after-school programs, summer camps and collaborations with faculty and engineering student organizations, the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering strive to create a pipeline of students to fill the ever-increasing global need for engineers. While our programs reach out to all Arizona students, many are particularly geared toward young women and underrepresented minorities by providing appropriate role models and rich educational experiences that help them envision, create and fulfill career aspirations.

A major expansion of such efforts will be enabled by a recent $4 million investment in the engineering school from former Motorola CEO Gary Tooker and his wife, Diane. The Tookers’ investment will strengthen STEM outreach efforts through faculty endowments and partnerships with Arizona’s K-12 teachers and education leaders to improve high school graduation rates and student success in college. The investment will also support public-private partnerships between industry and school districts geared to inspire students to pursue science and engineering studies.

Please contact us if you are interested in scheduling a campus tour, requesting a staff visit to your school or providing a hands-on, engineering-based project for K-12 students. For further information regarding any of these programs, e-mail engineeringoutreach@asu.edu or call 480-727-6761.
