Industry and academia working together to educate tomorrow’s civil and environmental engineering workforce
Mission
The Mission of the Friends of Civil Engineering (FOCE) is to support the educational programs of the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment. FOCE support for Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering (CESE) programs includes:
- Helping to attract top students to CESE at ASU and helping to retain these students at ASU;
- Helping educate ASU students about the industry by providing guest lecturers on industry‐related subjects;
- Providing a source of discretionary funds (through an annual donation) that the school director can use to support students, student activities, seminars and symposia, visiting scholars, and other needs;
- Sponsoring social events that bring industry professionals, students, and faculty together;
- Assisting in promoting and growing FOCE; and
- Assistance with raising endowed funds for CESE.
Friends of Civil Engineering (FOCE) enable the department to assist students with educational and research activities with the end result of providing the Civil Engineering community with well rounded, educated professionals. Your tax-deductible gift is needed to maintain programs that have become a part of our students' experience. Last year your funds provided scholarships, textbooks, a career fair, door prize of a laptop computer, travel to research meetings, travel funds for the ASCE student chapter, and a commencement luncheon for our new graduates entering the workforce. This year funds will be used for the same programs. Our student population has grown to an all time high of almost 600 undergraduates and 110 graduate students, and our state funding has dropped dramatically. With dwindling funding from the State, your contribution is needed in order to maintain these important programs for our students and your future employees.
