about ESSP

History

In October of 2007, a task force was created to address issues and concerns raised by the 2007 engineering survey results, department meetings and one-on-one meetings held with staff, faculty, students and the leadership team. Staff response for the survey was 69 percent and results confirmed the need for comprehensive training and development opportunities, along with a need to improve overall school communications and employee morale.

The project is sponsored by Dean Deirdre Meldrum and Executive Dean Paul Johnson. It is led by Denise Felsenthal, who heads a committee of staff members from throughout the school. The project is called the Engineering Staff Success Project. It is a one-of-a-kind, professional development project at ASU because it is being guided by a staff committee, of your peers, and the Engineering leadership, under the direction of Al Filardo, assistant dean of organizational performance.

The vision of the ESSP team is to develop programs which supports staff members’ professional growth, allowing employees to achieve maximum effectiveness in their current roles and to enhance the service culture model within the school of engineering. To support the service culture model, critical goals have been identified with the dual purpose of achieving the school's mission and providing individual development opportunities for engineering staff.

Our hope is that the programs with be flexible and customized to meet the needs of all 300 staff in the school, providing us with the tools necessary to achieve maximum effectiveness in our jobs.
