Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Candidates

Bachelor’s and master’s degree candidates should check in 45 minutes before the ceremony at the east entrance of the Wells Fargo Arena where they will receive instructions regarding the processional. Bachelor’s and master’s degree candidates assemble by academic major in the east lobby on the upper concourse. Seating within each academic unit is not alphabetical, you may sit with friends within your major.

Doctoral Degree Candidates

Ph.D. candidates should check in 45 minutes before the ceremony starts at Sun Devil Lounge, where they will receive instructions regarding the processional. Enter the Wells Fargo Arena though east entrance and turn right to fi nd Sun Devil Lounge. Ph.D. candidates will be hooded by their advisors. Please invite your advisor to the ceremony. If your advisor cannot attend the ceremony, contact Events Manager, so that other arrangements can be made.

All Ph.D. candidates and their respective advisors will line up together, unless your advisor is a part of the platform party assigned to attend the ceremony on behalf of their department.

Your Name will be read

When you arrive at Wells Fargo Arena, you will be handed a readers card listing all of the information as you entered it on the RSVP. As students walk onto the stage, this card will be collected and the students name will be read as they cross the stage.

Procession

The graduates enter the Wells Fargo Arena 10 minutes before the ceremony starts, ahead of platform members i.e. deans, faculty members, and guest speaker. Once all graduates have processed into the arena, please remain standing until platform members are seated on the stage. The protocol for the processional is for the graduates to face the center aisle as the platform members walk to the platform stage.

Recession

At the conclusion of the convocation ceremony we ask you to refrain from tossing the mortar boards in the air for your own safety and the safety of other graduates. The lights above you are very hot and may break if hit by graduates’ caps.

Students stand up at the end of the ceremony and remain standing as the platform party exits, then when directed by ushers students in first row depart, followed by second row and so forth.

Students will recess from Wells Fargo Arena from the West Tunnel. Family members and friends can meet graduates on the north side of Wells Fargo Arena.

Diplomas

Graduates do not receive diplomas at the Engineering Convocation Ceremony. Diplomas will be mailed 10 to 12 weeks after the commencement ceremony to your permanent address on fi le at the University Registrar’s Office. Diploma Covers

Diploma covers will be handed out to master students and undergraduate students at convocation. If you are unable to attend the ceremony, please e-mail your name and address and diploma cover request. Only e-mails that arrive after the ceremony will be processed.

PhD students will receive their diploma covers from the Graduate College, please contact them if you are unable to attend the University Commencement.
