School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering
The academic programs in the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering (BHSE) provide a rich, interdisciplinary curriculum that prepares students to use engineering and scientific principles and methods to develop instrumentation, materials, diagnostic and therapeutic devices, artificial organs or other equipment and technologies needed in medicine and biology.
Our world-renowned faculty members bring extensive knowledge and leadership, and seek to discover new fundamental principles regarding the functioning and structure of living systems. BHSE faculty and students are actively engaged in research that seeks lasting solutions to some of the great challenges that are currently facing society. We are focused on improving the overall quality of global health care, particularly in the following areas:
- Adaptive neural systems
- Assistive technologies
- Advanced diagnostics, monitoring and treatment of disease
- Individualized medicine
The overall goal of our programs is to produce graduates with a broad-based education in both engineering and the life and natural sciences. Our graduates are well-prepared for further study in bioengineering, a career in the medical device or biotechnology industries, a career in biomedical research, or entry into a medical or other health profession school.
Looking ahead, this will be an exciting year for our students. Our faculty and staff are excited about the opportunities that await, and we invite you to join us!
