Accelerated Bachelors' and Master's degree in civil engineering

Accelerated Bachelor's and Master's degree in civil, environmental and sustainable engineering

Accelerated Bachelor's and Master's degree in construction engineering

This program provides our top undergraduate students the flexibility to begin taking classes toward their master's degree during their senior year of undergraduate studies. It also allows students to share six credit hours between their bachelor's and master's degrees.

There are two options, a Master of Science degree (M.S.) and a Master of Science in Engineering degree (M.S.E):

  • The M.S. degree consists of 30 credit hours (24 credits of course work and six hours of thesis).
  • The M.S.E. degree consists of 30 hours of course work and a comprehensive examination.

In order to apply, you must have at least 75 credit hours and be taking junior-level classes.

Application Procedure

Students must apply for admission to the program through the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SEBE) and the ASU Graduate College. Interested students should meet with their academic advisor to learn more about the program and how to apply.

Application Process

The application process requires students to submit documents both online and to the advising center.  Both the online and paper applications must be received before your file will be reviewed.

Apply online at graduate.asu.edu

  • Pay application fee
  • Submit personal statement online.  Your personal statement should outline your goals and objectives for applying to the accelerated bachelor's and master's program. The personal statement should be no more than two pages (12-point font size) and should discuss your accomplishments, your career goals, why you are applying for a specific degree and specialty area, why you feel you are qualified, and why you will be able to devote the time and energy to finish the degree requirements successfully.
  • Request two faculty for letters of recommendation: List the names and emails in your Graduate College application, and the faculty will receive an email electronic form.

Submit the following documents to the Advising Center in ECG 251

  • The paper CESE application form (Civil) or Con Eng application form (Construction Engineering)
  • You must have completed a minimum of 75 credits toward your CESE Bachelor's degree and have a 3.2 or higher cumulative GPA.
  • Complete the Pre-admission Credits form. The Pre-admission Credits form identifies which two courses you plan to share between the B.S.E.-M.S. and M.S.E. programs. See the list of shared courses below. Visit the Web site for your specialty area to find out the master's degree requirements and schedule an appointment with your advisor prior to completing this form.  You may also wish to work with your advisor to complete a preliminary plan of study (optional).

Application Deadline
Priority application deadline for the Fall semester is March 15. Applications for Spring semester are due by November 15.  You must be admitted by our School and the Graduate College before the first day of classes when you plan to share (double count) courses.

If you have any questions please contact the graduate advisor and your undergraduate advisor, the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment at 480-965-0595 or sebe.advising@asu.edu.
